Despair, Death, and Día de los Muertos

I tried to leave the following detail out, but found the rest of the post really had very little meaning without understanding this event that occurred on Wednesday.

Wednesday morning at about 8:30 a.m., a man committed suicide  by jumping from the top floor of our building.  He landed in front of our apartment (we are on the first floor), about 6-8 feet from our playroom window.

By the grace of God and all his angels, we were not outside at our normal time, our shades were closed (they often are), and we heard nothing. Still the reminders were all around us all day on Halloween.  Police, clean-up crews, and other physical evidence of traumatic death that I won’t detail here.  Wednesday was a very shaken-up day for me.
