Statues: Theme Thursday

Today I took the kids up to the University of San Diego campus to visit Kevin’s alma mater and show them where we were married.  What I didn’t mention, because it would have elicited many groans and versions of, “Why do you always have to take pictures, Mama?”

Well, children of mine, it’s a hobby.  One I really enjoy.  And today it’s a particularly nice way to remember my nuptial mass to your father.  So, beloved babes, you can thank Cari for the mind-reading schedule for Theme Thursdays.  (Seriously, what’s up with that?) But you’ve only me to thank for the picture obsession.

Here’s a photo of a photo from our wedding mass 11 years ago:

The mass was said by Fr. Greg Coiro, a wonderful priest and a good friend of Kevin’s.  He gave what I still believe to be the best wedding homily I’ve ever heard (not that I’m biased or anything).  In it, he shared that he had pegged Kevin for a priestly vocation.  He was, however, willing to sacrifice Kevin if I gave up 2 of my 7 brothers and my firstborn son to the priesthood .  I’m on a roll so far; 2 out of 3 ain’t bad.  We’ll see about Gabriel.  Thus far it seems like he’s more likely to have a vocation to swordfighting, but only time will tell.

Here’s my official submission for Theme Thursday, Statues:

f/3.2, 1/40, ISO 1600

I edited this one a bit.  I upped the saturation just a tad to bring out the colors and then added a “low key” effect to darken the surrounding brick and draw the eye to the statue.

Did you spot the photo bombers?

Head over to Cari’s for more Theme Thursday statues.

Update:  Adding this one for our hostess with the mostest.  I know how she loves her some ethnic Mary.

I bought this statue for myself right before we left and brought it with us on our flight.  It was one of the first things we put out in our new home.

  3. Love it! What an incredibly beautiful church. And seriously, I though sword-fighting was a prerequisite for a vocation anyway.

And your ethnic Mary is spectacularly sweet.
