It’s Your Turn!

I’m feeling spectacularly uninspired this evening.  My mind has been consumed with school-ish things and political things, and all that’s left is a mushpot of feeling like I really want to write but not sure what I want to write about.  (Thank you, Facebook, for stealing not only all my time, but my actual brain cells as well.)

Then I remembered a conversation with a friend who said she didn’t feel like she could comment on my blog because it felt stalker-ish.  Let me assure her, and you, that nothing is LESS stalker-ish than a regular reader piping in.  Sometimes it’s just difficult to join in for the first time, but there’s nothing like ripping off the band-aid, right?  Answer as many of the questions below as you’d like.  New commenters (and old!) welcome!

In no particular order:

1) Name two foods that you like separately but can’t stand together.

2) What was your favorite childhood sitcom?

3) What’s the most ridiculous song you’ve had stuck in your head lately?

4) What’s your favorite book of all time?  Or, if that’s too difficult, your favorite recently?

5) If you could pick any (other) career, what would it be and why?

6) If you could choose between hiring a cook, a housekeeper, or a nanny, which would it be?

7) Tell me a joke!

8) When you were growing up, did you wear a uniform to school?

9) What’s your favorite alcoholic beverage? (I’m making a post-baby to-drink list. 🙂 )

10) Name one item on your bucket list.

Alright that’s it!  Share as much or as little as you like.  (My answers are in the first comment box.  Just to get us all started.)

  1. 1) Cottage cheese and fruit. Separate, delish. Together, Barf City.
    2) Cosby Show!
    3) Everything is Awesome! on repeeeeeeeat! And I think I’ve only heard the actual song once.
    4) I don’t know if I could pick *the* favorite, but one of my longtime favorites is Rain of Gold by Victor Villaseñor. Love, love, love.
    5) National Geographer wildlife/travel photographer, hands freaking down.
    6) A housekeeper, no question. Chores, be darned!
    7) One muffin says to the other, “Wow, this oven sure is getting hot!” The other says, “Ack! A talking muffin!” Gets me every time.
    8) Yes, I did, but only through 5th grade. I didn’t like it while I had to, but then I missed them terribly later.
    9) Right now on my to-drink list: Moscow Mules. Yummmmmmm.
    10) Travel more? I’m terrible with bucket lists. I’ll probably copycat one of yours before this game is done.

    Can’t wait to read yours!

  2. 1) Wow. I’m stumped on the first question. Not off to a good start… The closest thing I can come up with is I won’t eat raisins alone but I’ll eat them in a trail mix or in cookies. Kind of lame. Sorry.
    2) Home Improvement. (I really love Tim Allen. It’s ok. My husband knows 😉 )
    3) You know the song Super Freak?? Well, what I get stuck in my head is what my husband sings when he sees that a certain little girl needs a diaper change: “She’s a very stinky girl. The kind you give back to her mother.” (I love him for making it up and it always makes me laugh even if I’m the one that ends up doing the diaper change!)
    4) Can’t pick one. But if I’m forced to choose… “A Prayer for Owen Meany” (fiction) and “Unbroken” (non-fiction)
    5) Archivist (I love studying history through primary sources and could see myself loving being alone in rooms of old dusty documents.)
    6) Is this a trick question?? The answer is obviously housekeeper, right??
    7) “Did you hear about what happened on the news last night? Two peanuts were walking down the street and one was a salted!” That’s the only joke I know.
    8) Yep! If only I could find a picture. The dresses and skirts were BROWN AND PEACH plaid and the button down blouses were peach. Highly fashionable. They really know how to pick em at those suburban Catholic schools 🙂
    9) I am fairly inexperienced in the ways of mixed drinks and consider putting rum in my holiday eggnog a big deal! I’m very content with beer, especially Belgian wheat beers. Sorry I can’t be more helpful in this department, Micaela!
    10) hot air balloon ride (maybe over the Grand Canyon, but that might be too scary. Maybe just over a regular field…)

    7. Why didn’t the 2 year kid want the banana? Nope, not because it wasn’t appealing, because she’s two and two year olds are unreasonable! 🙂

    9. Amaretto Stone Sour. Love.

  6. 1) Think it through, I’m now your BEST friend. Who else will give you ALL the Reese’s from the Halloween bucket? 🙂

  7. 1. Coffee and Caramel
    2. The Partridge Family (I am really old)
    3. Animal (Oh, oh, I want some more. Oh, oh, what are you waiting for? Take a bite of my heart tonight.”

    8. Nope, just Dittos and Chemin de Fer 😉
    9. Pinot Noir from Eberly Winery in Paso Robles
    10. Extended road trip across the U.S. with my family.

    • 2) You are not.
      5) Can I be your assistant?
      7) It’s true!
      10) I keep begging Kevin for that, but he has some rational arguments about 5 kids under 9 on long car trips. Whatevs! Someday!

  8. I’m happy to admit that I’m a definite stalker. Sometimes if I’m bored, I just check your blog hoping you’ve posted something that hasn’t hit my email yet!

As for your Q&A… This is what I can easily crank out this moment.

2-3. Favorite sitcom was hands down “Saved by the Bell.” And now that’s also the ridiculous song that’s stuck in my head. (Come on everybody, sing along! “When you wake up in the morning…”)

    4. My favorite book has got to be “Pride and Prejudice,” which I read every year or so, followed by almost any other Jane Austen, followed by “The Lord of the Rings,” which I read every 5 years or so.

6-8-9. Housekeeper, no school uniform, and whiskey sour, unless it’s a good beer.

And I can’t think of a new career or any bucket list items. I don’t know if that makes me really content or just unimaginative!
