Me, me, Gianna, and a Giveaway

Last year I got all weepy and reflective on my birthday. It was a wonderful thing, that realization that I have been given such an immeasurable treasure in this life.  But I think I’ve been serious enough this week. Yes, I think that’s quite enough of that.

Hey y’all! Tomorrow is my birthDAAAAAAAAAYYYY!  Let’s party!

FitBit Flex

I put in a request for a Fitbit Flex Wireless Activity + Sleep Wristband, Black for my birthday. I don’t know if it’ll happen because we really are trying to budget and save money. Er, I mean “we really are trying not to spend all the money and then some.”

But here it is anyway.

If it’s not in the cards for my birthday, you can bet I’ll be adding a line item savings (is that the correct use of “line item”? I’m new to this grown-up business) for a FitBit. I think the feature that will be the most motivating to me is the SLEEP TRACKER. Yes, I know. I never sleep. Turns out that actually might be a problem. But since I currently have no personal Samuel L. Jackson telling me to go the eff to sleep, and I really like to hang out with my hubby and read all the Facebook/all the books/all the other things in all the world… I stay up. Too late. Every night.

What say you, internet world? Will the FitBit change my life or just make me feel like a failure?

ALSO Birthday!

A few weeks ago my sweet friend Renee took me to see Matthew Kelly speak. Holy cow, that man is inspiring. In his talk he recommended getting a journal where you write down one inspirational thing after every Mass.

What’s this? I love Mass! I love writing! What a novel concept to combine the two!

But once a week isn’t enough for me to form a habit. Since I’ve started trying to read the daily readings as a part of my morning prayer, I thought it would be cool to get a journal that noted them so I could go back and re-read the scriptures later. This turned out to be a difficult find.

Madame Amazon, my BFF, completely failed me. I spent a ricidulous amount of time trying to prove to Amazon that it did, in fact, carry a “Catholic prayer journal daily readings,” but  she’s a stubborn bugger and refused.

My second-place BFF, Signor Google, turned up this little gem:

Sandy from Catholic Prayer Diary contacted me via email after I purchased the journal. We got to chatting (surprise!) and I mentioned my blog (also surprise!) and that sweetie pie sent me an extra journal to give to one of you special ladies. Or my dad, who I think is the only man aside from Kevin who reads this blog. (Dad, if you win, just give it to Mom, okay? Kevin, you are disqualified. Xoxo)

So yay! It’s my birthday and I get to give something to you! Enter in the Rafflecopter at the bottom of this post!

Finally Something Not About Me

Tomorrow (on my birthday – hee hee!) Gianna will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation for the first time. Will you say a prayer for her?

Afterward we are planning ice cream and (drum roll, please) ear piercing! She doesn’t know about the ear piercing but I feel completely comfortable saying she will be thriiiiiiilllllled. She’s only been asking for 7.5 years or so. (Yes, I count tugging on my earrings as “asking.”)

(Caught Unaware)

Joining Cari for Theme Thursday, a day late and a dollar short.

What the…? I don’t even?

Off to the right of the frame there are a myriad of umbrellas and a half naked Gabe, also in boots.  I guess since California has gotten approximately 0.0 inches of precipitation this year, the boys decided to take matters into their own hands.

Me again!

I was nominated for the second year in a row for the Sheenazing Awards.

Lots of amazing bloggers are nominated, blah blah blah… You should go over there and vote for me! You totes should because I am apparently smart AND the best mom blogger AND under appreciated. But you know better, right? You appreciate me and, um, er, well I’m not the dumbest mom you know, so go vote now! For me! and other people! But mostly for me! Cause it’s my birthday and apparently I’m insane, so you should feel sorry for me. Pity votes are not prohibited.

But don’t forget to come back and enter the Rafflecopter!

  1. Hi! I’m a man, and I read your blog! I think it’s my 2nd comment, too.

  3. Happy Birthday!

I use to keep a prayer journal and really need to get back in the habit.

  4. Happy Birthday!!

    Congratulations to Gianna…bit thing!

Love, the rainboots pictures, and how is it possible that you get 0.0 inches of precipitation and still own 2 pairs of girly rainboots. Plus, isn’t it always hot in CA? If it does rain you all can just wear sandals…or go barefoot as my darling children did when we lived in FL. LOL

  5. Happy Bday! Thanks for being the gift giver with the prayer journal. I hope you get your fitbit. I’ve been drooling over one, too!

My prayers are mostly “Hail Mary’s” squeezed in here and there throughout the day. It would be awesome to have some sort of guided meditation to deepen my spiritual life. 🙂

  6. LOVE LOVE LOVE those butterfly boots! Awesomeness.

  7. Happy happy birthday my sweet friend. I wish I were celebrating with you tonight!!!

You know what has helped me get to bed earlier? I was SUCH a night owl–I mean 1-2am on a regular basis. So I gave myself a bedtime. I am to be in bed, lights out by 11pm. It motivates me to get the kids in bed earlier, not to start anything too late, and to be realistic about what I can accomplish.

I don’t always make it exactly at 11, but it keeps me focused on my need to get to bed. I haven’t had lights out any later than midnight this whole month so far. That’s a big deal for me!

If there’s anything I’ve learned, it’s that a new device will not fix *it*–whatever *it* is. Just nitty-gritty determination. I know that with your epic willpower (as demonstrated on your Paleo Challenge) that you can give yourself a sleep challenge and be the better for it!

  8. I am thinking that with the birth of each of my four beautiful children I lost necessary brain cells- now the people I want to pray for, intentions, etc. are like fleeting ghosts of thoughts that elude me when I pray. A journal would be super spectacular for helping me to remember all the things I am so grateful for and all those who need my prayers :). Oh- and I am an all day prayer warrior- gotta get ’em out as soon as they pop into my head! See above for explanation, lol!

  9. I have also been to a Matthew Kelly talk and it was amazing! I had heard him talk about the Mass journal before, but I really like your idea for the daily readings. I don’t always read them, but I attend daily Mass as often as I can.
