Ennui, etc.

I sat down a few minutes ago and began a post about birth.  Not any one particular birth (because I’ve already written those out) but about how we treat birth here in the U.S. It’s something I feel very strongly about, but 4.2 minutes into writing it, I just sort of fizzled out.  I will probably write it at some point in the future, but for now, I just don’t feel like it.

Ennui, anyone?  Anyone?

Permit me instead to share with you some randomness:

Norwex toothbrushes?

We are still dealing with cavities over here.  I’m working on improving our diet and using natural methods to heal them, and some we’re having filled/pulled (because I’m not totally and completely unreasonable).  But I’m kind of always on the lookout for alternative toothbrushes, and methods.  Has anyone tried these Norwex Silver Care  toothbrushes?  It’s so hard to find honest reviews of direct sales items because so often they’re written by salespeople.  Help a sister out, will you?

Our Lady of Sorrows

SONY DSCToday was the Solemnity? Feast? Memorial? of Our Lady of Sorrows.  We went to a local retreat center, Mater Dolorosa and walked their Garden of Sorrows.  All along the circular path, they have mosaics like this one, benches, arbors, and fountains.   It’s a quiet place, meant for prayerful reflection, so I was very verrrrrry glad we were the only ones there.  My kids are still working on “quiet” and “reflective.”

Ridiculous heat

It’s been in the hundreds here.  Bloggers all across the country are talking about their fall wardrobe changes and making hot cocoa and all manner of other such loveliness, and I am just sweating and planning my escape from this terrible place we call California.  (Anyone know of some nice cooler-climate people looking to give free room and board to a family of 6?  Soon to be 7?  No?  Darn.) I’ve been trying to motivate to get back to the gym, but honestly?  The thought of  going somewhere to intentionally break a sweat when I pay a gazillion dollars in a/c to avoid sweating at home?  Not that appealing.

On the side of good news: Farmers Almanac supposedly predicts a lot of rain for us this winter.  Please, dear Lord, let that be true.  Also: send the polar vortex my way.

New babies

My friend Nicole had her baby girl on Saturday, and was gracious enough to let me sneak over for a visit/photo shoot on Sunday afternoon.  How precious is this baby?!?!?!?!!?

Stella Maris Book Club

Hey all you clubbers out there!  How’s the book coming?  I’m a little over halfway done and plan to finish it this weekend.  Of course, I did just pick up  Jessica’s recommendation at the library, so we’ll see if I get distracted.  In the meantime, for those of you not on Facebook, do you have recommendations for books for next month?  I thought we’d try a fiction book written by a female Catholic author.  Hit me up with suggestions in the comment box, and I’ll post a poll both here and on Facebook.

I’ve been sorting through baby girl clothes and cloth diapers and other baby paraphernalia and I’m sort of freaking out about it.  I mean, I’m only 30 weeks!  Isn’t it too early to be nesting?  Is something wrong with me?

Thought-provoking links

had a couple of thought-provoking links to share, but I can’t seem to find them.  What a bummer, right?  In the meantime, would you all pray for my dear friend R?  She is really struggling with family issues and can use all the intercession she can get.

Okay, there you have my mid-week quick takes.  What’s up on your end, people?  Tell me in the comment boxes!

  1. I have used a Norwex Silver toothbrush for years. I don’t use it for cavities…it’s been a good 35 years since I’ve had one of those! I got one for everyone, but I’m the only one who still uses it. My kids don’t get cavities, and not because of their stellar oral hygiene…or excellent diet. We only drink raw milk, but they get soda occasionally, eat too much sugar, etc. Some people just naturally have more bacteria in their mouths, I think. Maybe a dental probiotic? There are a lot of them on Amazon, maybe even at Sprouts.

  2. What a sweet, sweet baby!
