Want to know something fun? I’ve got a speaking gig!
Okay, it’s super minor, but it’s at a very fun venue, and a fun topic, no? Yes! If you happen to be a homeschooler in southern California, come join me at the Southern California Catholic Home Educators Conference on June 28. I’ll be there, but don’t worry, it’s not all riffraff. Some legit speakers like Maureen Wittman and Cathy Duffy will be there as well. Let me know if you plan to attend. We can have lunch together!
On to the chatter!
1. Do you have a smart phone?
Yes. And I kind of hate it. I mean, I appreciate things like being able to look up emails on the fly, which came in handy yesterday when I went to the wrong location for a class. And I also love the GPS factor because I don’t have a separate navigation system, but overall it feels more like a ball and chain than a handy tool. I mean, considering how distractible I am, it seems like a bad plan to have something in my pocket/purse that can/does distract me from everything around me. It’s been better since I took Facebook off of it, but I’m considering getting a dumb phone when it’s time to trade in.
2. Which is your favorite meal of the day?
Breakfast is my favorite, but mostly when people cook it for me. Also: bacon. Mostly I’m too lazy in the morning to make anything I consider delicious. I like lunch too, with its sandwiches, and dinner with all its variety. So I guess I’m not really that picky. I’m just a hungry gal in general.
3. Shower or bath?
Shower. I don’t have time to take baths. I wish I was the relax-and-soak kind of lady, but really, time is of the essence around here. I gotta get in, get out, and get on with my life.
4. Think of a person you love. How many days have you been in love with that person?
Well, I love a lot of people, but I’m going to go with the obvious here. Kevin is the love of my life and the man of my heart. I’ve been in love with him for approximately 5754 days! (Calculated using this site.) That’s more than 15 and a half years! I couldn’t tell you the exact day we fell in love because, well, erm, the beginning of our romantic relationship was <ahem> a bit complicated. (Missy, stop laughing.) But I think it’s pretty cool that I’ve been with him for 42% of my life. We’ll have to celebrate big when we hit 50%, don’t you think?
5. What’s the best church you’ve ever been inside?
Well, I haven’t been on any pilgrimages lately, so I’m going to go sentimental here. My favorite church is Founder’s Chapel at USD, where Kevin and I were married almost 12 years ago. You can see some photos when I visited last summer here and here.
And here’s a photo of a photo of our wedding:
6. Happy Feast of the Visitation (last Saturday)! Has anyone ever come to help YOU?
Yes, I’ve been very blessed by the help of others. Every time I’ve had a baby, many someones have helped me. My mom and dad always come down for a week or so after each baby, too. When we moved to South Korea, the whole community pitched in to help us get settled. Plus, my in-laws are incredible and help us on a regular basis. I mean, they take the boys once a week so I can catch up on school with the girls and they babysit whenever we need help. Am I lucky, or am I lucky? (P.S. If you missed it, I talked about my complicated relationship with Mary and how the story of the Visitation helped me overcome it.)
