Sky: Theme Thursday

[Cue the part where I apologize for yet again foisting photos of our Philippines vacation upon you.  Next comes the part where you roll your eyes and yawn, but then suddenly remember that we are in the midst of A Big Life Change so you forgive me and scroll down anyway.}

I love the sky.  Which is weird, because I detest birds, and they are the main population of the sky. Still, it’s not the sky’s fault, so I love it anyway, as evidenced below.  (Dear bird-owners, especially Christy: I’m sure your bird is the exception to the all-birds-are-rats-with-wings rule.)

Sunrise:

F/14, ISO 200, 1/1250
Does it count if it’s of the islands, but taken from the sky?  I hope so.

F/13, ISO 200, 1/320
Storm clouds gathering:

F/32, ISO 400, 1/20
Finally, a series, also taken from the plane window.  (They looked clearer in the camera screen.  My children’s grubby fingerprints ruined yet another perfectly wonderful thing.  Le sigh.)
Going…

Gone!

I think I definitely have a future in National Geographic photography, don’t you think?  It’s always been a dream of mine.

In camera news, I discovered a menu on my camera (Sony) called Metering Mode.  It was set to “Multi” which would mean that it exposes for the overall brightness of the photo.  This explains why whenever there is a bright light in the photo, everything else gets really dark.  I’m trying out the two other settings, called “center” and “spot.”  I’ll let you know next week if it improves my picture-takin’ capabilities, m’kay?

Now I’ve revealed myself to be a bird-hatin’, Philippines-lovin’, sky-obsessin’, self-aggrandizin’ cheater, but I still I hope you’ll come back next week.  Whatever the topic, it’s sure to be fun!  And eventually I’ll run out of Philippines photos.  Sooooo, there’s always that to look forward to.

Head on over to Cari’s place to see more of the sky I love.  I can’t promise there won’t be birds, though.  Sorry.

Edit: Shneaky, shneaky.  I just noticed that one of them dang birds snuck into my first shot.  What a nefarious bunch, I tell ya.

Comments

  1. You DO have a career for that! Beautiful photos!

  2. The last picture- by far the best to me. Amazing.

  3. BEST SKY PICTURES I HAVE SEEN SO FAR!!!!

  4. show off.

Seriously, these pictures are jaw-droppers. Every one. What is it like to live in a picture postcard?

  5. You are amazing, and yes, you have a calling. AND PLEASE!!!!! Keep coming with the Philippines pics! And self aggrandizing is good for the soul. In small doses.

  6. Gorgeous!!!!!

  7. LOVE the ones from the plane! How amazing!

  8. 1 & 3 are my favorites. Beautiful pictures.

  9. I don’t understand. How do you HATE birds? I mean, sure, I can understand birds-as-pets, but that’s more a comment on their pet status, rather than the animal.

Hate…? Birds…? Are you even HUMAN?

    But the pictures are pretty.

  10. All these sky photos are so much fun. My favorite of yours is the one looking down on the islands…because it is a different perspective.

The sky is the limit! Thanks for sharing! 😀

  11. I’d like to start off by saying that I have always shared your hatred for birds (except chickens. I freaking love chickens and would have them in our backyard if I could, well we did once, but anyway…). I’ve never liked birds. Lacy always had them as pets and they annoyed the heck out of me. When she first moved in I told her, NO BIRDS. This lasted for years. When she moved back in this last time she had Monet (The beautiful bird you see in all my pictures). That is seriously the only bird I have ever liked (again, chickens don’t count here). Maybe it is because he talks, I don’t know, but I love that stupid bird.
And as far as the first photo goes, I thought the bird in the picture is what started your rant about bird hating. I find it hilarious that you didn’t even know it was in there!

  12. Holy crap- these are amazing! Thank you for sharing the beauty!

  13. Incredible photos. Wow. So good! I’m sure that’s just a boomarang in the first pic, btw. No worries.

  14. I love all of these. They are seriously amazing. But the last one…I looked at that and I think I just fully exhaled for the first time all day. I didn’t even realize I was holding my breath. Thank you.

  15. Those pictures are amazing….absolutely beautiful!

I suppose I shouldn’t post on and on in your combox about my pet parakeet now..right?

  16. I love all your pictuers! So beautiful. I’m a sucker for night sky though. =) Curious, how do you feel about bats?
