Good Job: Theme Thursday

I’ve been on nearly a week’s blogging hiatus.  It’s been… nice.  Not that I don’t love this blog, but sometimes it’s good to detach and realize that not every thought or experience needs to be cataloged here.

How have I been spending my evenings, you ask? It’s a valid question, since most of the time I am clickety-clacking away on this keyboard.  This week, I’ve been in the garage working on this beast:

My newest (only?) DIY project. Excited and skeered about this one. Maybe Cari will move to California to help me?

So far, this is what I’ve done:

  • tossed in an old side table that desperately needed refinishing (because remember I’m 35 weeks pregnant and neeeeeeed more projects. ;))
  • disassembled the hutch and reinforced some of the weaker points with nails and wood glue
  • went to JoAnn’s and bought some inexpensive chalk paint and antiquing wax ($24 for 2 bottles of paint and 2 bottles of wax.  Plenty left over.)
  • went to Lowe’s for new hinges and pulls ($14)
  • sanded the top
  • re-painted all of the painted parts
  • distressed the doors and the drawer front and added antiquing wax

What’s left to do:

  • finish distressing and antiquing the hutch sides and top
  • finish distressing and antiquing the side table
  • put on the new pulls and hinges
  • fill hutch with adorable baby clothes and cloth diapers

And here’s what happens when you think you’ve cleaned up thoroughly at {ahem} o’clock, but really you’re too exhausted to be efficient:

Good job, Micaela.

Good job, Micaela.

Many thanks to Heather at Mama Knows, Honeychild for the tip on cheap chalk paint.  And Cari, our hostess for this week, is also my DIY mentor, even if she doesn’t know it and is frightened by the concept.  Thanks, Cari!

Now, head on over to Cari’s place for more Good Jobs at Theme Thursday.  Yay! Photography!

  1. I’m so excited for the final reveal! We’ve had unfinished dressers in the kids’ rooms for over a year and keep intending to paint them but… Yeah, still not happening! Maybe your project will give me the inspiration I need 🙂
