Crafty: Theme Thursday

Ah, Theme Thursday.  I’ve missed you so.  Last week I was feeling pretty low and particularly uninspired, so I missed “Bare/Bear.”  Not this week, though!  I’m back, if a bit tardy.

As a homeschooling mom, crafts are my nemesis.  No, really.  I detest them.  They’re so much work, and the kids make such a mess, and whinewhinewhine-many-other-lame-excuses.  But really the crafts I hate are the paper kind.  Needle crafts?  Love.  Woodcrafts? Adore.  Culinary crafts?  Have we met?  Culinary crafts are the most wondrous of all.  It doesn’t mean I actually do them often, but I do so love the process and the result of these traditional crafts.

For Gianna’s birthday she received Doodle Stitching.  I’d yet to try my hand at embroidery (who am I?  Laura Ingalls?) but this book had such adorable and whimsical designs, plus a CD with trace-able printouts!  I’ve been meaning to steal it since October, and this seemed to be the perfect time.

I decided on embroidering a craft apron for the boys.  I chose a circus tent design because, well: hello, my life.  I got all crazy and added some of my own embellishments and voila, a pattern!

I unashamedly staged this next shot.

If you have a child between the ages of 5 and 15, you may recognize the Rainbow Loom photobombers on the right.  Someone under the age of 9 snuck it in when I wasn’t looking.

And can anyone tell me what that red stripe on the fabric is?  It doesn’t actually exist, but this fabric does something strange and reflects light where ever the focus is.

Head on over to Cari @ Clan Donaldson for more photos of craft/crafty/craftiness.

  3. Sweet baby Jesus, but I hate crafts too. Hate the mess. The mess! THE MESS!
But I’m all up on the embroidery tip now, and I’ve got a circus plaque on my front door, so I’m totally digging your pictures.
