Awards, Excercise, Kids… you name it, I’ve got it.

I feel like I’ve been blogging a lot lately.  My capacity for creativity at this wicked hour (12:11 AM in Korea) is seriously diminished.  Apologies and condolences.  I hope I don’t waste too much of your time.

Tonight at dinner Gabriel (3 years old) shared one of his monologues, complete with charades.  It’s always a surprise where he will take us.

“First, you get a backpack.  Put a swimsuit and a shirt in the backpack and zip it closed.  Put it on your back.  Then get a sweatshirt and put it on.  You have to zip it up.  Then go to the airport and fly to Mimi and Papa’s house!  When you get there you have to go in the elevator.  Walk through the garage.  Then there are jacuzzis and pools and you can go swimming! … I know we can’t go today.  Can we go there tomorrow?”

Ah, if only it were so easy.  (Looks like I might have to buy a bigger sweatshirt, though.)

It got up to 54 degrees today.  FIFTY FOUR DEGREES!!!!!  I was reminded of this meme a friend shared on Facebook the other day.

Just switch out “Daegu” for Michigan and it’s pretty much spot on.  Flip flop weather!  At least for us Americans.  Koreans bundle up most of the year.

My sister Katerina arrives next week!  Yeehaw!  I’ve been ribbing her a bunch about how I am going to enslave her and take a Mommy vacation (wine at noon? don’t mind if I do!) but I am really just very excited to have her here.  Mom, I promise not to overwork her… everyday.

Today I went back to doing Jillian Michael’s 30-Day Shred.  I did it last year with impressive results and it’s time to get my rear back in gear.  I am dyyyyyyying from soreness right now.  What a hate/love relationship I have with this workout: hate the soreness, love the results.  I won’t delve too deeply into the inner ranting I do while doing this workout… Suffice it to say that I am silently screaming “shutupshutupshutup” for about 23 out of 26 minutes.  (Grit your teeth and find the inner joy, Micaela.  The. inner. joy.)

Immediately after finishing the workout, Ezekiel took a can of chickpeas (one of the kids’ “weights” as they followed along with me) and beamed it directly onto Gianna’s bare foot.  From about a foot away.  For about 30 minutes I thought her foot might be broken (one more reason to loathe the Shred) but Gianna recovered pretty quickly.  In fact, I knew she was okay when she angrily stomped her feet at her brothers for misplacing her reading book.

I have recently begun to question what the heck this blog is about.  Korea?  Homeschool?  My family?  Food?  Parenting mistakes?  Gentle parenting? (No, those two are not the same.) Photography? My faith?

I guess the answer is “All of the above.”

Which puts me squarely in the “Niche Blog” category.  How much more niche can you get than a “Catholic mom living in Korea who natural births, cloth diapers, homeschools, practices NFP, loves food and has recently become obsessed with interested in photography”??? Honestly, you either have to be my family, a very close friend, or all kinds of cray-cray-crazy to hang around here.  Whatever your category: Welcome, and thanks for putting up with me!

Yesterday (barely- actually it was 3 hours ago, but who’s counting?) I linked up for the first Theme Thursday with Clan Donaldson.  You can see my post here.  If you are an amateur photographer, you should check it out and join in on the fun.  Our theme this week was Sun flare/haze.  I had to do some serious Googling to figure out what those things even were.

Even if you don’t have a blog, you can post photos on the Clan Donaldson fan page.

And the Sheenazing Awards goes to (drum roll, please…)

Not me.  Officially, the results aren’t out yet, but I was up against some pretty stiff competition, so I’m just going to go ahead and call it.  If you voted for me, thank you!  Also, I wanted one last chance to use this graphic before it became proprietary to the winners.  “Simmah down, y’all! Just simmah down.”

Congratulations to the Sheenazing Award winners, and thanks to Bonnie @ A Knotted Life for hosting!

Head on over to the ever-lovely Jen at Conversion Diary for more Quick Takes.

  1. Your quick takes are always my very favorite.
Glad Gianna’s foot isn’t broken. Chickpeas don’t play around- she’s lucky.

  2. 3 year olds tell the BEST stories!!

And I didn’t get to comment on your first Sheenazing post yet but every time I see the graphic now I automatically think “Simmer Down, ya’ll” hahahahahaha – that was TOO FUNNY!!!

  3. Ah ha! Credit to Micaela for “Simmer down…” I literally LOL each time I read it. Totally going to start yelling that at the kids today and see what happens.
Glad to be among the cray cray who still hang out in this neck of the virtual woods.

  4. I guess I fall under the cray cray category? Just keep doing whatever you’re doing because I’m eating it up with a spoon.

Now, onto my real question. I have said Jillian video that I do sporadically (like when I can’t go to the gym or only have time for a quick workout). But you say you got results with it, so I’m wondering if you have to follow the plan (10 days at each level) to get the results? Because I need some!

    • Glad to feed the cray cray, Colleen. Makes me feel useful.

I actually got my best results from sticking with level 1. When I went to level 2 I actually hurt my knees. I should add that when I got my best results last year I was on a Paleo-style diet as we were trying to determine my son’s allergies/sensitivities. So I’m sure that made a difference, too.

  5. This is the third time I’ve read about the 30 day shred today. I think I need to jump on this wagon.

  6. “Simmah down, y’all! Just simmah down.” You are hilare.

  7. Love the new header! How’d you do that?

  8. Your blog’s the very first thing I read when it pops up in my email. I love the window into your world – and your anecdotes always make me smile. Thanks for your pics and posts.
