Please forgive the combo post. I owe my little 7 year old (whaaaaaat?) a birthday post, and I just happened to choose her as my subject for this week’s theme: “Answer.”
Happy birthday, baby! I remember your birth like it was yesterday. You came squalling into this world, 9 lbs of chub and love and righteous indignation, and rocked our world to its very core.
And [Hannah] said, “Oh, my Lord! As you live, my Lord, I am the woman who was standing here in your presence, praying to the Lord. For this child I prayed; and the Lord has granted me the petition that I made to Him. Therefore I have lent him to the Lord; as long as he lives, he is given to the Lord.”- 1 Samuel 1 26-28
You’re such a creative child, chock full of imagination and ideas and plans. You love to direct plays for all your siblings to act in. You don’t mind at all taking the backstage; it is, in fact, your preference and you excel at it.
Your very favorite thing to do is cartwheels. You must cartwheel a hundred times a day, spinning your way to and from every chore, lesson, and game. Sometimes it drives me crazy, but mostly it reminds me of how much fun it was to be a kid, to want to do all the dizzy-making activities I could at any given moment. The other day you said to me and Daddy:
I love my family, God, my friends, and cartwheels.
You summed yourself up pretty well, honey.
Ali, our sweet shining star, so full of life and love and color: we love you with everything we have. We’re so grateful to have you in our lives.
