Enough about me. What about YOU?

I’ve got a few posts in the works.  Some are halfway done but need some editing before I post them.  Others are just thoughts floating around in my brain.  None are ready for viewing, but I didn’t want to wait another day to post because… I miss you.

That’s right, I’m a weirdo.  Kevin asked me last night if I would get as much joy out of just writing for myself rather than blogging and I believe my response was  [BLANK STARE].  Write without anyone to chat with about it later?  Why bother?!  Alright, okay, I know there are lots of reasons to “bother” about writing something more meaningful and edifying than a silly opinion piece here and there, but let’s be honest about who I am.  I thrive on talking and conversation.  Occasionally I even shut up and listen, too.

Gratuitous photo that proves I married up. Is that man handsome or what?

Gratuitous photo that proves I married up. Is that man handsome or what?

So let’s just chat today.  I’m going to write a few questions, and if you feel so inclined, I’d love for you to answer them.  Pick and choose any you like or answer them all, it’s up to you.  I’ll answer my own questions at the bottom.  After all, it’s only fair.

Extrovert or introvert?

Books or movies?

Current books?

TV shows in your DVR, Netflix queue, or Amazon Watchlist?

Ice cream or frozen yogurt?

Teacher or student?

Cook, bake, or takeout?

Mountains or beach?

Black and white or color photography?

Finally, my favorite question: If you could travel to 5 places in the world today, where would you go? (Cost is no option and your safety guaranteed, because this is just for fun.)

Happy Feast of St. Joseph!

Happy Feast of St. Joseph!

My turn:

Extrovert most of the time, but I have lately discovered a secret introvert.  Don’t tell, okay?  I’ve got a reputation to uphold.

Books and  movies.   Lately I’ve been lazy though, and reading less than I like.

Current books: Father Elijah: An Apocalypse by Michael O’Brien, The Practice of the Love of Jesus Christ (A Liguori Classic) by St. Alphonsus Liguori, John Paul II: The Journey of a Saint(a graphic novel)

TV shows on my Amazon Watchlist: Veronica Mars (Thank you, Haley, for the newest addiction.  It’s like TV candy: easy to consume but with very little nutritional value.) and Downton Abbey (Thank you to the rest of the internet.  I’m only in Season 3, so no spoilers, please.  After watching last night’s episode: SYBIL!!!!!)

Ice cream.  Period.

Teacher of my children and student of a Google education.

No baking.  I’m awful at it.  Cooking and takeout are tied for enjoyment, but for health and budget concerns, at-home cooking is our predominant form of food preparation.

Mountains and the beach.  Living in California has spoiled me that way.

I prefer my own photos in color, but that’s mostly because I don’t think I’ve mastered the art of B&W.  For other people’s photographs, I am often moved more by B&W.

In no particular order: Jerusalem, Rome, Croatia, Tunisia, New Zealand

Okay friends, chime in when you can!

Comments

  1. Extrovert or introvert? – pretty even mix of both
    Books or movies? -books
Current books? – Beyond the Birds and the Bees, by the Popchaks, Theology of the Body for Beinngers by Christopher West and a fluff mystery book not woth mentioning
TV shows in your DVR, Netflix queue, or Amazon Watchlist? -Psych and Lost,
Ice cream or frozen yogurt? – ice cream. I never understood frozen yogurt…it’s not really any healthier than ice cream.
Teacher or student? -both I guess
Cook, bake, or takeout? bake, I love to bake
Mountains or beach? I love both, but I’ve spent the majority of my life living by the beach, so I’ve spent way more time at the beach.
Black and white or color photography? I love black and white
Finally, my favorite question: If you could travel to 5 places in the world today, where would you go? (Cost is no option and your safety guaranteed, because this is just for fun.) hmm….Italy, Australia, Switzerland, Hawaii, and England

    • I read Beyond the Birds and the Bees a year ago or so and found it helpful. It may be time for a re-read, or at least a skim, though.

  2. Extrovert or introvert? Oh definitely an introvert. I am very skilled at faking it for about 3 hours before I have to slink away and recharge.
Books or movies? Generally books but I love a good romantic comedy. Though I haven’t read anything new in about 3 weeks which is very unlike me. Oops.
Current books? See above? I am reading The Boys in the Boat but it’s LONG and for whatever reason I can’t get into it fast enough to plow through it.
TV shows in your DVR, Netflix queue, or Amazon Watchlist? On DVD (because we’re low tech like that) we just got the full series of Full House. On Amazon I am watching Numb3rs and HIMYM to relive good moments before it all ends. On Netflix we are testing the waters of a lot of different shows. Nothing binge watching worthy yet.
Ice cream or frozen yogurt? Yes.
Teacher or student? I would stay in school forever if money wasn’t an factor. So I guess right now teacher.
Cook, bake, or takeout? I love baking but I also love takeout. Cooking? Meh. But we do it because of budgeting and all that good stuff.
Mountains or beach? Beach. I don’t really understand the mountains. For me they’re fun for like an hour and I’m done.
Black and white or color photography? Sepia! No I think I like color the best. Sometimes black and white feels like people are trying too hard.
Finally, my favorite question: If you could travel to 5 places in the world today, where would you go? (Cost is no option and your safety guaranteed, because this is just for fun.) Denmark, Italy, Prince Edward Island (Anne of Green Gables Tour), Austria (Sound of Music Tour) and because safety is guaranteed China. China freaks me out but I’d LOVE to see the Terra-Cotta Warriors.

    • Full House!!!! Oh man, you’re the second person in as many days to remind me of my childhood love for that show. Is it a sign? You tell me…

  3. Introvert; shy with strangers and definitely need my alone time to recharge.
Books mostly but am also love old movies.
Current books: The Thief by , Better by Carey Heywood, and 1000 gifts by Anne VonKamp
TV shows in your DVR; Sherlock (playing catch-up since I caught the craze during Season3), Cosmos
    Ice cream!!!
Teacher of nursing students and my kids
Cook, bake, or takeout ~ a bit of everything, cooking/baking is out of my comfort zone but I’m trying to stretch myself
Mostly beach currently but the mountains will always hold childhood memories and echoes of my dad.
Black and white or color photography: Both (completely agree with your answer)
If you could travel to 5 places in the world today, where would you go? No order: Belgium, Ireland, Rome, Prince Edward’s Island and Jerusalem.

  4. How fun! I’ll play…
Outgoing introvert…i.e. I have to recharge solo, but I sorta like people and really enjoy socializing when it has a beginning, a middle, and an end.
Books. (But dumb tv at night…I know…I know…)
Currently reading, The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck. It’s a re-read. Allegedly it was my great-grandmother’s favorite book, and I feel a connection with her when I read it, even though I never knew her. Also reading The Highly Sensitive Child. And we are reading By The Shores of Silver Lake as a family.
Arrested Development. And also Veronica Mars for the same reason you mentioned.
    Ice cream I guess, but I’m not gung-ho about either. (Again, I know…I know…)
Mostly student, but I embrace my bossy side, too.
I like to bake, but it exhausts me because batches of cookies are tedious and making a cake pretty after spending time making it taste good is beyond my attention span. Also, I have to be gluten free, so breads are just never quite as satisfying. Cooking is even better because I really can pay even less attention to recipes. And, boy do I love not following recipes.
    Both. Oregon girl, here.
John Day, OR; Broome, Australia; Duvachelle Bay, New Zealand; South Korea; Alaska.

  5. Extrovert or introvert?
Like Maia, a very social introvert. I love people until they’re too much, then I crawl into my cave to knit.

    Books or movies?
    Booooooks!

    Current books?
I have tower of gardening books I’m reading for practical purposes, but I just ordered Michael Obrien’s A Landscape with Dragons. For fiction I’m reading The Minpins with my 4 year old.

TV shows in your DVR, Netflix queue, or Amazon Watchlist?
We just canceled Netflix and I’m feeling the pain. We’ve been doing Sherlock and Doc Martin on Netflix. We own the complete series of Jeeves and Wooster, Poirot, and Arrested Development, and cycle through each once a year.

    Ice cream or frozen yogurt?
    Tart frozen yogurt!!

    Teacher or student?
I think a good teacher is perpetually a student! So both, I hope.

    Cook, bake, or takeout?
Cook. I can’t bake to save my life and the combined dietary restrictions of this household make takeout almost impossible.

    Mountains or beach?
Gonna pull the CA girl card here, too. No need to choose one or the other!

Black and white or color photography?
    Black and white.

Finally, my favorite question: If you could travel to 5 places in the world today, where would you go?
Hawaii, Yellowstone, Assisi, Lisbon, Sevilla. But ask me again tomorrow because I’ll have 5 different places depending on my mood. Right now sunshine and quiet with my husband and kids sounds perfect.
    Nichole recently posted…Please prayMy Profile

    • Sevilla! I lived there for 6 months in college. The only reason I didn’t put it is because I’ve been there. But I would got back in.a.second.

  7. Fun! And I miss you too, Micaela!

    1. Full blooded introvert

    2. Books

    3. The Thief by Attolia (not enjoying)

    4. Afraid to admit this publicly, but I adore Pretty Little Liars and I am re watching it as I fold laundry these days

    5. Ice Cream

    6. Gosh, I don’t believe I’m either teacher or student, terrible I at both giving and receiving directions!

    7. “Takeout!!!” She screamed in desperation.

    8. Neither mountains nor beach at the moment…I choose nice hot bath

    9. I’m with Micaela, I think I have more admiration for a well done B&W, but if it’s not well done it had better just be color.

    10. Have been to both Rome and Croatia multiple times and I would still choose those as my top two destinations. After that, I dunno, Heaven?

    • This whole comment just made me laugh from beginning to end. I can hear you screaming “Takeout!” If I lived driving distance, I’d be there in a trice.

    • You? An extrovert? I never would have… oh wait. 😀

I miss your cooking. And baking. And also I just miss you. Your travel plans sound fantastic, so let’s just go together, okay?

  9. Extrovert or introvert? On personality tests I usually come out at about 65% extrovert. I love to gab, and love people, but I like some alone time, too.
Books or movies? I have to say books – but I also love movies!
Current books? Just finished a Loyola Classics marathon – In This House of Brede (Godden), The Edge of Sadness (O’Connor), and Five for Sorrow, Ten for Joy (Godden). I have been on a mostly non-fiction kick for several years, so I decided to dive into some Catholic classics. Loved them all!
TV shows in your DVR, Netflix queue, or Amazon Watchlist? We don’t really watch much TV, because we don’t like Japanese TV, and don’t bother to pay for cable to watch US shows. I do like to find free things online, like Downton Abbey and Call the Midwife. We also love The Mentalist, and are waiting for the next season to come out over here on DVD (though it’s actually a couple of seasons behind the US). My teens and I have also gotten into watching American Idol (mainly because I’m a long-time Harry Connick, Jr. fan) on YouTube – it’s a few days late, but still fun!
Ice cream or frozen yogurt? Ice cream!!
Teacher or student? both, for sure!
Cook, bake, or takeout? baking is my favorite
Mountains or beach? I love our little cabin which is on a tiny woodsy mountain by the beach best of both worlds!

  11. Extrovert or introvert? (Slight) introvert. I really like it when I get a chance to be alone in my own house!
Books or movies? I like movies, but nothing like a good book.
Current books? Dorothy Sayers mysteries & Introduction to the Devout Life. Just finished Great Gatsby (hadn’t read since HS), Till We Have Faces (thanks for the recommendation, Micaela!), and Gunnar’s Daughter (pretty great novella by Sigrid Undset).
TV shows in your DVR, Netflix queue, or Amazon Watchlist? Agents of Shield. Also recently started Portlandia with the hubby – pretty funny in small doses, but I can’t take too much of it.
Ice cream or frozen yogurt? Ice cream. Java, please.
    Teacher or student? Teacher
Cook, bake, or takeout? Aim to cook, like to bake, try not to settle on takeout.
Mountains or beach? Mountains for myself, but beach for the kids. I like taking them all someplace where they can entertain themselves and each other for free all day. Even if it means sand everywhere.
Black and white or color photography? Like B&W, shoot in color.
Finally, my favorite question: If you could travel to 5 places in the world today, where would you go? (Cost is no option and your safety guaranteed, because this is just for fun.) Italy, Greece, London, Alaska, NYC

Mountains or beach? Beach. ah to be on a sandy white beach somewhere with nothing to do but chill with my margharita and good book.
Black and white or color photography? After I started printing I really fell in love with color printing. I wasn’t ever great at it, but it was a blast playing with color. Really like both for their own reasons.

I’ve lived in Germany and while I’d like to go back, other places I’d like to visit are Paris, the Holy Land, Spain, Scotland and Rome.

    • I’ve always wanted to visit Germany, too. I’m Austrian-German on my mom’s side, so maybe someday I’ll make it home to the motherland. 🙂 And you should definitely read Pope Awesome. It’s a quick, enjoyable, and moving book. Perfect for the lighter moments when you don’t feel like picking up Devout Life but want something that makes you think about your faith.

  16. Micaela,
I found you through the Catholic Bloggers page over on Facebook. I look forward to seeing more of your posts.

  17. Yeah, I am totally late to the party but what a fun idea!!
extrovert or introvert? – Extrovert with family and really close friends. Introvert with everyone else.

Books or movies? Movies although t I like to read the book before watching the movie version.

Current books? Insurgent by Veronica Roth, Gone Girl. Vatican Vampire Hunter Book of Thoth, and Lent with St Benedict.

TV shows in your DVR, Netflix queue, or Amazon Watchlist? Too many to list here but highlights include Veronica Mars, The Middle, The Blacklist, Father Brown, The Walking Dead, Psych, When Calls the Heart and tons of Masterpiece Theater shows I can’t bring myself to erase until I’ve bought the DVD. (I’m a tv/movie-aholic) and numerous B&W movies. I do recommended Foyle’s War but start with Season 1. Also check out Masterpiece’s The Paradise. Lastly, I have a tab on my blog for Downton Abbey commentary if you want some feedback as you catch up. 🙂

Ice cream or frozen yogurt? Ice cream, preferably chocolate with nuts. (But not rocky road. I used to spit out the marshmallows as a kid. Weird, I know.)

Teacher or student? Teacher simply because of the kiddos around although the “Restore” workshop I am taking is teaching me as lot so student too. (Nice and non committal there.)

Cook, bake, or takeout? If health we not an issue it would be take out. But I’ve learned to enjoy cooking and baking when it’s not too complicated.

Mountains or beach? The beach, of course. But being a Cali girl too the mountains and beach kinda go hand in hand since they are right next to each other, at least in this area.

Black and white or color photography? For me I love bright colored photos but there is something breathtakingly beautiful about B&W too.

Finally, my favorite question: If you could travel to 5 places in the world today, where would you go? (Cost is no option and your safety guaranteed, because this is just for fun.) Rome (Brian and I went there on our first anniversary and we swore we’d go back one day), the UK (while listening to the Clash’s “London Calling”), Austria (because that is where my mom-in-law is from), former Yugoslavia (because that is where my dad-in-law is from) and last I’d take a cross country trip across the US and somehow manage to step foot in every state (because it would be a tribute to my road loving parents.) 🙂
